How many Rocks could Bob Rock bob if Bob Rock could bob Rocks?
JOHNNY'S ALWAYS RUNNING AROUND TRYING TO FIND CERTAINTY
so glad you said this - modus vivendi is underrated as all hell and she's talented as fuck
aw man, i was hoping you were an adherent of the hunter s thompson writing schedule https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQCFdcEXknc
holy shit james how are you cranking out new articles every two minutes at midnight
Given that there is now a war over the name Lady A, “Antebellum” was actually far more appropriate than any of us realized
I just finished Legend of Korra and the Untamed and loved both! Hope next week goes better for ya :)
I definitely wrote these guys off after their second album or so but after listening to this (lovely) cover I went back to their most recent album which I surprisingly found to be really good! At least, it feels like their best project, since I always kinda thought there were a couple good tunes on their earlier albums, but a lotta same-y filler
The only example that's coming to mind right now is El-P on Cancer 4 Cure and Killer Mike's RAP Music in 2012, but if you count the Alchemist/Conway Lulu EP, I still think Alchemist has the better year (and we're barely halfway done, so who knows if he has some other project in the works)
if she's a policy prof/researcher AND a dog rescuer she pretty much jumps to the front of the line of my favorite people as well! (also, would love to check out her research if you have a link!) def agree it's not an infinite resource you can tap into, esp. when it comes to the real, active, nitty-gritty labor type of stuff. you've gotta take care of yourself and not put whatever "care" you might have for others first (to say nothing of martyrdom complexes and how those can be hella harmful, etc etc) BUT i do like to think of it as a muscle, in that if you try to practice empathy consistently, and in unexpected ways that "shock" your emotional system, you'll find yourself capable of relating to and caring for people that seemed previously completely incomprehensible. at least i hope that's the case. (i should provide the disclaimer that i fail pretty much every hour at implementing this shit in my personal life, and am much better at telling people what to do on the internet.)
sympathy/love/empathy/care/whatever the fuck you wanna call it ain't a zero-sum game.
Super well said. I say this as a massive fan of nearly every bit of his music (at least, through Jesus Is King): Kanye (and particularly this interview with him) is a perfect example of so many horrible aspects of our culture: the ignorance with which we treat mental illness, the adoration/damnation attitude towards celebrity, the lack of substance surrounding political discourse, the undue influence a public figure can have.... When I think about the kid who made College Dropout grinning and rapping for Pharrell in the studio, and how he turned into this ... it makes me so, so horribly sad.
the fact that the Other Site wrote an article about what a great and timely protest song "Dior" is - without even mentioning that line - dumbfounded me.
thank you for being the sole voice of reason here. also, yeah, Stereogum, don’t cover this clickbait-y shit. all it does is give attention-seeking idiots the platform to spew nonsense and provoke hysterical reactions. i enjoy this site precisely because it’s been an alternative to the other 99.9999% of media, which does precisely that.
did not know occult classic and illuminati hotties were band names was very confused
To be fair to Chase, he does seem to be trying his absolute hardest to rectify this
shoulda changed it to Beto O'Rourke
great points made in this comment section but none so far about the picture accompanying this article, which finally made me understand how tom morello was once a male stripper
If my understanding of politics in 2019, as an insanely wealthy 30yo white person, was "Democrats need to, like, all be together! Like we're going to the mall!", I sure as shit would shut the fuck up about it too.
what if i want to categorize it as "the bee's knees"?
Have always been a fan, have always found the Christian rock label a misnomer and merely there because of their record label. Nothing Is Sound and The Beautiful Letdown are great slabs of post-grunge - "The Blues" bangs
I also feel like I'm seeing way more co-producers this time around, or is that just me...?
the rare internet comment that i wish was a couple paragraphs longer
Honorable mentions to Lie Cheat Steal, Bumaye, and Love Again 5. Chase Me 4. Don't Get Captured 3. Close Your Eyes and Count to Fuck 2. A Christmas Fucking Miracle 1. Oh My Darling Don't Cry
Has there ever been a more perfect time for an RTJ album?
for madonna so loved the world, that she gave it an instagram video of her dancing son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life
i dunno, it was a pretty stirring duet with some avant-garde vocal stylings clearly influenced by spoken word. there was also a nice feature from water sounds. pretty fire track if you ask me. coulda probably used more trap hi-hats though. 8/10
Disagree - start calling law enforcement and reporting the massive amounts of white-collar theft and corporate fuckery that has a far more wide-reaching impact. Call the police on employers who steal from their employees. Call the police on the Amy Coopers who make false police reports. Call them and report that shit every day. See what happens to the crime stats.
Kinda looks like I'm in the minority but I thought GOAT was amazing and better than Die A Legend. The singles bang, the opener and closer are both standout album tracks, and the guy can really rap or go do the trap-sing-songy thing. Die A Legend was solid for me but GOAT is what's really made me a convert.
nothing like ruining your kid's life on day one just so you can score cool cred points and show people how edgy you are
I'd definitely recommend it, as someone who also has limited patience for piano singer-songwriters. To me it sounds kinda like twee Yeezus (tweezus?) at points, which I mean as a compliment of the highest order.
GQ: I’m going to start recording, cool? Kanye West: I think words are one of our lowest forms of communication. Music, sound, food, dancing are nonverbal forms of communication. We get so wrapped up into words. We got to make things that are speechless. We have to make things that leave people speechless. We have to make things to the level where no one can say anything. GQ: ....can I record, though?
think he's just maintaining proper social distancing protocols. i will follow his lead and stay at least six feet away from this album at all times
Good lord it's been a terrible decade for music's portrayal in film and TV
Sad that Win doesn’t remember how he used to write letters, how he used to sign his name
