i mean, i guess it's better than what's come before it but....maybe.....stop treating music like a competition? because it's unfulfilling, a waste of time/money, and not the point of all this? and also creates an in- and out- club that ultimately ends up being pretty detrimental to most artists and music creators writ large? will my comment be posted twice? do any of these questions make sense?
agreed on all points. also kinda feel like this was a missed opportunity for the sg fundraiser in that they should've included a six pack of blochead ale with the premium vip package
i dunno, i'd like to believe that's the case, but it's not like her fanbase (by and large) is going to threaten to stop using google or take concerted action or even read up on the issue. (not shading her fans, just shading ppl in general and the generally shallow way we interact with things on our screens). it might get a few folks to do so, which is cool
even as someone who wholeheartedly agrees with her sentiment, wish more celebs who actually cared about an issue would go behind the scenes and use their cultural influence in a way that might actually cause some change. look at prince paying off the bills for clyde stubblefield or doing all sorts of charitable work without needing to let everyone know that he was doing it. at least imho, there are many, many channels through which someone with money/power can influence an issue - i don't really see posting on social media being one of those channels, even if your audience is huge
I read so many interviews with him, both during and after Girls, about his approach to music. He seemed to have such a genuine love of collaboration and desire to bring the best out of the people he was working with, which is so much rarer than you'd think in the music world.
Horrible that he was only 40. RIP and hope his family/friends know how much his music meant to so many people.
Dean Gray's American Edit had some pretty solid mashups too - my personal favorite being Ashanti + Green Day + Buffalo Springfield + The Who:

I'm sorry, did you just a) say that Vampire Weekend are the Better Than Ezra of the 00's AND b) NOT make an Ezra Koenig pun? I don't know which offends me more.
Sorry, did we all forget that this is someone who’s admitted to drugging people with date rape drugs and robbing them? Or are we cool with the only non-trump major presidential candidate sitting for an interview with that person?
I would agree, but since this interview led to confirmation from the horse’s mouth that his campaign is designed to siphon votes, I think that justifies them covering him in this case.
From what I know, egalitarian philosophy is such a broad concept that variants of it originate in many philosophical/religious schools of thought (it's not exclusive to the Judeo-Christian-Western tradition; Islamic, Confucian, and Buddhist thought also come to mind off top). And it's certainly not exclusive to the past 2000 years, as there's pretty solid evidence that a variety of early hunter-gatherer societies were far more equal than we are today:

if you needed any other indicator of how much of a bummer 2020 is, the guy from tim and eric singing "i don't see the value in having fun" should suffice
I think you could make just as much of a case for the opposite - a sales environment wherein more people are staying inside and have nothing else to do other than stream a surprise release probably helped her.
Plus the dearth of "big" album releases this year so far meant she didn't have much competition, as compared to Lover coming out in August 2019 and trying to stand out in a month that also saw releases from Drake, Lana Del Rey, Young Thug, Bon Iver, Brockhampton, etc.
So on one hand, you have Bandcamp realizing the tough spot musicians are in these days - COVID or no COVID - and having multiple days in which they give up all their profits to support the actual creators.
On the other, ya got Swedish Dr. Evil over here calling on musicians to keep cranking out the product and blaming them for not getting with the times, while he sits on nearly $5 billion and gives one of the lowest per-stream payouts in the entire industry.
I hope he falls into a volcano.
