While microcastle almost plays like a really long track, halcyon feels more like a collection of songs but what a fine collection it is. Earthquake and helicopter alone are just overflowing with ideas
what a monumental record, too many musical / lyrical highlights to even enumerate not to mention how incredibly good it sounds. some beautiful and evocative guitar textures, 'neither of us' has some of the most musical drum playing i've ever heard, it's just an incredible album on all levels. and still i think i prefer halcyon digest
mbdtf, teen dream, halcyon digest, have one on me, the suburbs, age of adz, sir lucious, archandroid, plastic beach, innerspeaker, lisbon
like, get fucked rest of the decade
A bit weaker than 2017 so far I'd say, which for me wasn't that great of a year to begin with. Fuck it, I'll rank the years
2010 // 2015 // 2012 // 2016 // 2013 // 2011 // 2017 // 2014
i slept on muchacho initially but it is now one of my fave records of the 2010s. the tour dates were announced a few weeks ago and i thought maybe he'd be playing his old stuff, but this is even better
YES, I am all for a critical reevaluation of this record. I get it that Martin sounds corny as hell but fuck me if he doesn't believe every word he's singing. He was trying to give everything some meaning here; maybe he fell flat for most of you and I sure as shit don't know what he's talking about, but who of us hasn't been there? I love to hear him try regardless, and still go back to this album regularly and always enjoy it. Matter of fact thanks for reminding me, I'll spin it right now

to be fair tom is a shit writer whose style wouldn't feel out of place at your average cracked.com countdown. but he does get the clicks so that this place can keep the lights on, and giving the real writers some space. so thank you thomas, you lovely buffoon
just here to echo how great those sunday playlists have been. they're off-kilter but coherent, just what you'd expect a deerhunter curated playlist to sound like
honor is not the first word that comes to mind when i think of grammy's rofl
but i'm also not from freedomland, i'm just an ignorant mainland normie so pay me no mind
ok, i've had enough of fleetwood mac so i'm just gonna let it rip here. for some reason, it's named after its two most useless members. they became relevant because of buckingham and nicks, and after they left the dudes just kept going with the same name as if nothing had happened. mate, when the two most talented people on your band have left, i don't know maybe it's time to go in another direction or just call it quits instead of milking the work they had to make your band with a silly name be worth something in the first place
i do love me some rumours tho, i mean who doesn't
Now for realsies, I haven't heard this record in a while but it was pretty formative for my tastes about 10 years ago and opened me up to all sorts of things. I don't know what treachery these guys pulled off but there's nothing that sounds like it and I'm glad it's getting some attention here
