This is one of the best tracks he's been a part of since 808s, which makes it even more disappointing that he used that image as the cover and continues to say shit just completely boggles the mind. Does dude actually believe he's a victim? Like, what?
Dead & Company opened a 48 refund window (which I assume means that Dead & Company ate that loss themselves, like, out of (business) pocket), but from what I'm hearing people are still complaining.
That many producers on an FKA Twigs mixtape is... idk, semi-troubling, but also really interesting. Definitely imagining more stylistic changes throughout. I didn't really love the jam with the Weeknd, but in an entire album of unexpected jams it may come across better for me. Still obviously looking forward to this album.
Wow. Really interesting covers day I guess. OK, so... Matt's cover is great! I actually really like it and since it's for a good cause and approved by BoC I'm going to go and chip in a couple bucks for a file of my own. That being said, you just can't beat anything from 'music has the right to children'. That album is unfuckwithable. Granted, I say this as an admitted complete and total IDM nerd (yes I know it's a stupid term, I didn't create it). I was a deep, DEEP Warp, Rephlex and Skam junkie long before that album was released, so I'd known about and listened to BoC before this masterpiece was released. It's an album that I listen to several times a year, still. It's one of those where if I hear the tiniest snippet of any track I'm immediately overwhelmed with a flood of associated memories (people, places, drives along the coast in particular). I really, REALLY love that album. So saying that I think this is a great cover actually has some meaning for me. Before I pressed play I was more than ready to give it an "ahh HELL no!" But nope, I like it. Well done.
Donna Jean Godchaux is one of the backup singers on Percy Sledge's version of When a Man Loves a Woman (also for Elvis Presley and Neil Diamond). Donna Jean, along with her husband Keith, were members of the Grateful Dead from 1972-1979. That is literally the only thing I have to contribute to a conversation about this song. And in my eyes anything that steers it away from Michael Bolton is a good thing. https://www.rollingstone.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/rs-14581-donna-1800-1393940967.jpg
Still testing, nothing to see here https://www.rollingstone.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/rs-14581-donna-1800-1393940967.jpg
Just testing something here, don't mind me... https://www.rollingstone.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/rs-14581-donna-1800-1393940967.jpg?resize=1800,1200&w=1200
The original is pretty great and I'm not sure I'd pick this cover over that. However, this cover is damn good and it's made even better by the use of some Linn Drum patterns lifted directly from some Prince jams.
Holy shit... I was just wondering (like in the last week while watching the most recent Stephen Carpenter playthrough on the Deftones YouTube channel) what was going on with Chino's other bands. I was hoping that †††, Palms or Team Sleep weren't all done and over. Maybe they aren't?
I despise this version of this song. Cannot even bring myself to read this one, sorry Tom. Michael Bolton was not my jam and most certainly never will be.
Yeah, some of us are... but not in the way you mean it.
The whole show was pretty good as far as the Kennedy Center Honors go. The were genuinely funny jokes and some pretty damn good performances. Brandi Carlile continues to prove she should be way bigger than she is. Billy Porter, who can often get on the wrong nerve for me real quick, slayed that shit. A bunch of the Lorne Michaels stuff the kind of funny that actually made me laugh. I was surprised. They lost me with the Opera guy because as much as I've tried (like, my whole life, classical music is one of my things) I just don't really get it. It kind of makes me uncomfortable, actually. And Berry Gordy is still a crook. There's a reason Smokey did his whole presentation when every other recipient had multiple people. Other than that, honestly I enjoyed the show. I'm not really getting the negativity with the Joni part. "Big Yellow Taxi" is a great song and you could just as easily argue that they didn't need to do two songs off of Blue if you wanted more representation of her entire career. Do we even know who chooses the songs? Maybe Joni was involved in the selection. Regardless, "Big Yellow Taxi" is generationally recognized and thereby becomes musically important. Many artists have "better", "more personal" or "more musically developed" songs than the ones they are most recognized for. I thought it was a fine way to start the show and Joni seemed to enjoy it.
Oh man... genuinely sorry you never got to experience him in person. Even watching the best of the best videos (and there are some good ones) doesn't put across the energy he created in the room and the people in it.
Same. Was probably there with you some of those nights. I saw him a lot and I saw him way too many times on Musicology tour.
There's about 50 of them if you count all the NPG stuff. Only a slight exaggeration - record labels and a vast majority of the music listening public giving up on Prince will forever be a huge missed opportunity for the music world as a whole. Even with the vast amount of material he released he had so much more to do and say that would likely have been of an ever BETTER quality if he wasn't always fighting to be something else along the way. The fact that so much amazing material was never released (officially) or was hastily tossed out into the world and forgotten about still boggles the mind.
But, being the Prince era that it was, there's (unfortunately) also this version... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGb7vQa4QG4
There's this one, as well. Also a banger. Gett Off was definitely a solid jam and as usual sounded like nothing that was on the radio at the time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bi-xdXFsqk And one of the great Prince b-sides of the time is Gett Off with completely new lyrics... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQr1OKtVBnk
The full version of the one you're talking about... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_4OUUwdfzw Have you ever heard this one... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BsbOkmxgmc
I still miss this man, so much. Thank you for making this about more than Prince's 'last number one single'.
You forgot the part about not actually owning anything.
He is 100% correct. As someone who has been online since 1993 and never without an internet connection since 1996 I firmly believe NFTs are the biggest scam and the absolute worst idea to have come from internet culture. It's a garbage idea and anyone who pays for one deserves to lose their money.
Well... the original Conan The Barbarian is my all-time favorite film, so, works for me!
There us a massive spike in positive Covid-19 cases in both the vaccinated and unvaccinated due to the Omicron variant. This isn't gobbledygook pseudo-science, it's quantifiable. It's happening again. The NBA and NFL are being overrun with positive tests. Many more places are going to shutdown again. I'm not sure what is so hard to understand about how much of a strain large scale Covid outbreaks put on our entire nation. I'm not sure what is so difficult to understand about staying away from large groups of people in close proximity to one another being the absolute easiest way to prevent the spread. Why are people still fighting this concept? Fuck off and don't get vaccinated, I'm tired of arguing with people about it. Catch some Omicron variant without being vaccinated and get back to me. I'm tired of arguing with people about wearing masks. At least I live in a place where they're required almost everywhere and nearly zero people complain about it. But arguing against the MASSIVE spike in positive tests in NYC not being a reason to cancel gatherings where humans will be packed tightly together for a long period of time is just plain willful ignorance.
Ah, his comment and facial expression at the end would seem to imply that he knows he didn't nail that one. Didn't get that on the audience video I watched.
Interesting. Watched an audience upload of this and Jame's vocals sounded better in the that mix. He seems to get more into it as the song goes on in both, though.
Reload is not great, imo. Definitely worse than Load, again imo. But Metallica albums have all been hella long since ...And Justice For All. Even Master of Puppets was starting to push what you could get on a single piece of vinyl (which mattered back then). Totally agree about bloated albums in the age of huge CD sales, that's a fact. But Metallica have always gone long.
Yes, because evidently it's a song that a lot of people have been wanting them to play for a lot of years. They're pretty connected to the fan club so I'm sure they knew what they were doing.
... not really the kind of jam I go to FKA Twings for.
Is there still going to be a regular ol' post type thing that I can just read?
Because North Korea? Those statements in the last paragraph are fact. Truth. Verifiable.
Big Sean is getting paid Ye is getting very paid People are still talking about this Success
WHY AM I SO CONFUSED BY THIS THREAD?! -_- I would like to have the disposable income to own any bass Paul McCartney owned that was actually used on recordings and played on stage. End of.
Prince did the same thing, although still handled it poorly as the rights began reverting back to him. Bummed me out when some of the holders in his estate sold out this year.
Great. Now we get an abundance of Bruce Springsteen songs in commercials, movies and singing competition shows. Trips me out how fast this happened with the Fleetwood Mac songs Stevie and Lindsey sold their publishing on. Not mad at Bruce. He's getting up their in age and that amount of money insures he and his heirs (or whoever he leaves the money to) live comfortably for a very long time.
Ignorance is never and excuse. "But I didn't know" is never a pass. Education is everything. These two things combined - a lack of education resulting in a lack of knowledge - have filled our industrial prison complex with people of color. Danny Carey is a well educated 60 year old man who has travelled the world many times over. He knows. No excuses.
What the fuck are you even saying? Do you have any understanding of the definition of words and what it means to utter them directly into another humans being face? smdh A homophobic slur is a homophobic slur and yelling it at someone while poking them in the chest is, a) homophobic, b) ignorant, and c) immature as fuck for a 60 year old.
