There really is something to the fact that you have to hear this at a certain period in your life for it to grab you. I do not get it and never did. I was 17 when Hybrid Theory came out and to this day I've never deviated from my initial opinion that it's an embarrassing, excruciating listen.
HOWEVER ... NIN was my Linkin Park, I first heard them when I was 13, and when I go back and listen to TDS and PHM there are moments that make my skin crawl in a similar way, but my devotion to those records is steadfast. So in that way I guess I do get it just a little bit.
