That’s a perfectly valid reading of the situation, but I think Lorde is more responsible for Jack’s high demand than the other way around. Taylor Swift might have been his first break, but he didn’t become the Only Person Producing Pop Albums until after Melodrama hit.

I’m too busy being excited about the return of Michae Nelson, and the prospects of another perfect Deafheaven record to be thoroughly petty so I will keep it brief:
I TOLD y’all bitches. It’s fucking DEAFHEAVEN.
Someone with digital media skills make the Elmo gif blue and LFG
There must be some sequencing magic going on, because I didn’t bop to “Go Down Together” until I heard it after “737”, and I finally understood the fuss around “If I Believe In Love” after it was setup by “Cold Blooded”. I really was expecting to feel left out of this one, but I loved it.
Wasn’t the new Weeknd track much. Maybe it will hit me when I hear it for the first time in Target or a grocery store?
In the meantime, I’ll be shaking my ass to “Secrets (Your Fire)” by Magdalena Bay in the kitchen.
They do the same acoustic droning trick they perfected on “Cattails”. At the end of the song, everything else drops out and you hear those two high strings coming clearly through the rest. The entire song, those two notes provide a base for the rest of the band to go absolutely apeshit. Mesmerizing stuff.
The one caveat with that is that MGK sings about suicide and self harm a lot, which is not cool! If my child were listening to this I would be at least a little concerned!
I used to get mad about Machine Gun Kelly, but now I think I’ll just listen to Turnstile and let the kids have fun. Only the good Lord knows how many times I listened to Good Charlotte’s. “The Anthem” (which is at least 10x better than this song, don’t get it twisted) when I was 13.
Weirdly, this gif just made me wonder if Machine Gun Kelly has devoted his entire career to chasing the endorphin rush of “Scotty Doesn’t Know”. It certainly feels like it!
It’s really fascinating to think about who actually voted in this poll, given the fact that most of us idiots in the comments were not really feeling most of these songs. I *like* “solar power,” and even I never even considered voting for it.
This is like if a Disco, or City Pop song clicked on one too many weird geocities pages and got fucked up by a computer virus. A totally rad computer virus.
It’s also a nice blend between the self-contained singles from A Little Rhythm, and the mixtape vibes of the Mini Mixes. This is going to be an Album, people.
“Little Things” does such a great job capturing the locked-in, feedback heavy vibe of their live show, while maintaining the intimacy of their last two records. Also, when Adrianne yelps you know shit is about to pop off… those last two minutes are insane.
These virtue-signaling “freedom” fuckers like Marc act as if there’s some hallowed, ethical ground involved with allowing people to choose whether or not to comply with public health guidance. All the whole remaining willfully (proudly!) ignorant of the burden that their choice places on their neighbors.
Maybe not the best place to start, but the Drive By Truckers just released a live show from one of the tours with Isbell on guitar, and it’s incredible.
