Thank you for putting in to words how I've felt with these artists' recent output. I think their stuff hits home way harder when they take a "personal is political" approach. Some of this more recent stuff causes me to roll my eyes a bit.
I mean having your livelihood destroyed for attending a political rally is pretty brutal. (I'm assuming that's why the label dropped him, as it happened before the allegations surfaced) That being said, whining to the media always makes you look like a wiener.
Fully agree, especially when there were a lot of great artists worth mentioning that weren't. Not to mention the article justifying leaving a few off the list because the weren't purely "country". A few more that immediately come to mind: Colter Wall, H.C. McEntire, Logan Ledger. Lots of great country music this year.
Seems weird to not even mention Chris Stapleton, who I think put out the best country album bar none this year. Also I think the Isbell album is kinda overrated. I love Isbell, but for whatever reason this one didn't do it for me.
