Also yo I barely got the money to pay off my credit card bill & make rent this month but I love you all and thank you for participating in this fun game I got the chance to start by being #first 😜💜
dunno why the hell this got a downvote even though I ALMOST put a disclaimer saying “locals don’t count, apologies” but I fixed it 🤌
forgive me I’ve betrayed myself and my people; was just still in shock at not recognizing your clearly superior characteristics for what they were—a sign of coming from this beloved shitfuck we call home
okay but actually though
“here in MA” clang…my beloved clang…a fellow Massachusettsian…I should’ve known this whole time
A pair of tickets for the first person that can tell me how that town in MA is pronounced
I listened to this album twice in full before coming to a thread that I knew would be absolutely chaotic (said with love 💜) and (most likely) subconsciously influence my opinion of the album. I held this opinion on the first listen, and it held up on the second: This is amazing. It’s absolutely an album made for young people to relate to, but that’s the point—and to that end, it feels sonically futuristic (save for obvious examples, “Billie Bossa Nova” “Your Power” etc). It’s obvious how much of herself Billie put into this album—“Not My Responsibility” is such a strong and intimately personal piece of writing—and I will be giving this at least a few more spins.
idk why i can’t reply to inthedeadoftheknight but there literally just don’t need to be any comments in this thread besides theirs
I’ll never forget the day I figured out Phil Collins and Scott were different people
“But the LGBT community… I ain’t trippin on y’all, do you. y’all business is y’all business.” anyone feel like the internalized homophobia is real w this dude no matter how hard he tries to hide it
Wow. I’ve spent so much time having some sort of good faith in this dude because I’m pretty sure he’s got some alcohol issues he’s gotta figure out (and thank fucking God, he did actually go to rehab)—but here he is, on one of the biggest morning shows in America, displaying that even in a completely sober mind he does not fucking get what’s wrong with what happened. I severely doubt that “this group of friends” is a group of Black folk who are okay with him saying it around them (whether you think even *that* is okay “in private”—this shit got broadcast to the whole world on account of him being one of the biggest stars in music right now. It’s inevitable the MINUTE someone recognizes you, in modern culture where everyone’s got a smartphone). Fuck him. I’m sorry; fuck him.
shit’s been on for an hour and literally nothing has happened; I feel as though I can imagine ye backstage like nah nah lemme flesh out this one last beat and tim cook staring him down with every fiber of his being
yeah shoutout to his beginnings in like, literal glam-metal lmao
Uhh…I’m excited for a Coldplay album? What in the absolute fuck? H/t to you, Max, you truly make me simp everything you touch. Even if Jack Antonoff seems to be replacing him in terms of producing big pop albums (which I would chalk up mainly to his work on Melodrama—similar to Max’s work with Britney cementing his status), he’s still a mastermind and one of my biggest inspirations musically speaking. Guess I’ll have to listen to this one. Especially after listening to Higher Power for the first time just now. God fucking damnit.
yuh they literally, like, live for these songs—so when a new one comes out its like OHHHHH SHIEEEDDDDDDD and everyone puts all their resources into getting that shit up to #1. doesn’t make em enjoy any of the previous singles any less (although everyone’s gonna have their favs; that’s like one of the biggest talking points between stans) but it is quite fascinating to watch from the outside signed, someone who used to be neck deep in music standom before i got the hell out of that black hole
imagine liking 100 gecs and big thief at the same time
They just put out one of their best albums of all time last year. The secret is he’s only playing those songs for people who are stuck in 2003 and convinced that the Strokes are garage rock gods and nothing more 😉
This thing does, in fact, happen to be 16 tracks long…so, not sure about these critiques. Billie was not about to put out another album in 2020 after dealing with the flurry of fame she got off her debut, and ESPECIALLY not during a worldwide pandemic—instead, she put out two great singles with MVs to match. One chill as hell single with a beautifully hand-animated vid, one actual banger with an MV concept that’s dream-worthy as a young person: Billie taking a completely empty mall and just doin her thing in it. Yeah, mall kids don’t really exist anymore, but I sure as hell was one and I LOVE that video. And now, finally, it’s all coming together! And she’s released three singles since the announcement of the album, seemingly showing the variety of sounds we can expect on this album. God, the end of the month can’t come soon enough, I used to hate this girl and now I love her so much. BTW, I just listened to NDA/Therefore I Am back to back, as it is ordered on the album. Would highly recommend. She’s doing Chromatica transitions in this bitch 😩
Ugh ily Cody. This song’s too good for life ion care what anyone has to say about it
No sequel will ever come as close to being as legendary as this based on the soundtrack alone. Will be watching the fuck out of it as soon as it hits HBO Max.
God damnit. I’m in a losing battle with myself here. Anyone wanna drive me to Dunkin’?
Sheer* mental stress. Sheer also works though. Just pronounce it like “shit.”
What is happening here? Is this a situation of people dropping her like a hot potato, or her finally getting her way after all this time, or something else entirely? It’s wild that her professional relationship with someone who managed her since she was a Mickey Mouser is ending. That’s not the kind of thing that happens lightly (though obviously this entire situation is dark as hell, both just, in nature and in terms of what’s being left unknown). None of this is any of our damn business anyway. A woman who’s proven herself over and over again as a damn good performer, who can handle the sheet mental stress of doing that every night (whether on world tours or in her residency), should be in control of her whole life. TLDR- fuck anything that wasn’t decided personally by Brit; hell yeah to anything that was. She’s a human. She deserves to be treated like one. What a crazy concept.
Third accidental downvote in a week, probably my brain melting from a fucking shirt with the Goo artwork on it costing $104
OHHH this is exciting. Hope it leads to some kind of breakthrough for her (though she’s had a mini-breakthrough already, it seems mostly confined to the electronic music community). Funny how all of my most anticipated albums of the year either have release dates well into the second half of the year or haven’t even been announced yet…funny, yep, that’s the right word. 😜 (The first half of this year has been amazing, to be fair.)
Thank fucking god for that new album artwork.
I fucking hate my phone and how easy it is to fat finger downvote on it. Love you SDP. Being an asshole sometimes is just part of commentariat culture ❣️
I just wanted to thank you for reminding me that Big Thief are playing in Northampton. Shit feels crazy to me. I bought tickets the first time around; praying I can get tickets again this time. (I know they’re on sale already…💸🙈)
The whole concept is fucked up and I’m not down with it. Having to see the events in the news is already fucking traumatizing, seeing it fictionalized for entertainment is insulting. Maybe I’m savior complex-ing and this can “represent” the rappers growing up in the hood and getting hooked on/dying from drugs at a tragically young age but the the whole project is helmed by a white dude, so…not so sure.
I feel like Mac was the most wholesome mfn dude. like, literally having his stage name be a hybrid of his and his brother’s names, that’s family love man. RIP also, apparently this was heard loud and clear! https://omaha.com/people/good-news-to-be-renamed-following-criticism-from-mac-millers-brother/article_5008581b-290f-5b74-a97f-10e8dbff6444.html
“[…] some real off-brand Max Martin shit” I love you Chris
yeah it’s not a tit-for-tat about who was inspired by (or worse, “copied”) whom it’s just frustration over the fact that rodrigo’s paid asf and got this aesthetic all over her first album and everyone’s like oh queen, meanwhile most DIY bands are broke as hell & lucky to make it out of their scene (if they do) by like their 5th album of crafting an aesthetic regardless of what it’s inspired by these two acts just happen to have extremely similar aesthetic and I would love to see at least somewhat similar success for both. rodrigo’s already got hers, so I’ll repeat… stream Death of a Cheerleader, everybody! it absolutely slaps! would love to see PPS live, damn
in the DIY world* also a lot of DIY musicians end up having to work for places that are owned/managed by places like this piece of shit (including several close friends of mine) https://www.mass.gov/news/owner-of-northampton-holyoke-entertainment-businesses-cited-100000-over-wage-and-hour-violations
PPS hasn’t made any comment thus far on this—other bands have been the ones noticing the similarities. it’s really about the fact that someone with a ton of money behind her productions is showing a lot of similarity (like, a *lot*) to a current up-and-coming DIY band—and in the DIY, there’s a universally communal understanding about how little money there is behind the music. if you’re in a DIY band, you’re working a 40hr/wk (if not longer) job, often on tips, doing the literal best you can to both write and record songs in your spare time (which includes the cost of instruments, a computer, a recording interface, etc.). rodrigo is able to evade all of that cost and work directly in a high-end studio with people who have degrees in recording, mixing/mastering—all kinds of sound engineering. same with her photoshoots; same with her videos; same with any creative pursuit she chooses. i’m not chastising her for that. life is a game of luck sometimes and in this case, this is where it got her. but for the majority of people, it gets them in the former situation i described. that’s why a ton of DIY bands are saying something about this.
