you ain't very bright are you?
i have a really bad association with this song. in the mid-to-late 90s i listened to this alt-rock radio station out of buffalo, NY... pearl jam, r.e.m., soundgarden, live, that kind of thing. it was the sound of my youth before i discovered indie rock. well, eventually they changed formats, and i found out about this the hard way by tuning in and hearing "black velvet." i was like, what is this shit? the end of an era for me. also, great song about elvis (specifically about the day he died): "just a touch" by r.e.m.
no, this is a studio recording that pre-dates that live version. "pulk/pull" on /amnesiac/ incorporates elements from (or was built from) their attempts to record "true love waits." so i'm guessing this version is somewhere in between, with more "true love waits" to it. we'll see!
it was definitely attempted across several months during the kid a/amnesiac sessions, per ed's studio diary from that time. would love to finally get a studio version.
he tried that, the engagement just wasn't there... https://www.tiktok.com/@radiohead/video/7003416645913824518?lang=en&is_copy_url=0&is_from_webapp=v1&sender_device=pc&sender_web_id=6898473669036951045
yes! serj's voice has such a beautiful quality to it, when he wanted...
WIRED WERE THE EYES OF A HORSE ON A JET PILOT ONE THAT SMILED WHEN HE FLEW OVER THE BAY
thinking an announcement has gotta be imminent
great new song, and a perfectly executed high kick from bob!
GBV kicked off their tour this weekend as well. absolutely slayed! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqp4yOjUthQ
not sure drake fans are the best demographic to appreciate well-done art of any kind...
whoa! you're in for a treat. this is basically OTC without bill doss (RIP)
hopefully this doesn't pave the way for lou barlow to sue himself over the bakesale cover...
this is so fucking weird. his lawyer was pretty unflappable, which was cool; i respect her and i imagine she does really valuable work outside of this case. and obviously i can't relate to the situation spencer is in, but like... the focus of the image is NOT the penis. i really have to question the motives of anyone trying to claim it's child porn. the other thing i can't wrap my head around is that if he hadn't deliberately associated himself with the cover over the years, who would really care who it is? it's not a photo of "spencer elden," it's just a baby, an anonymous baby that literally could be any baby. no one would recognize adult spencer from that photo, and vice versa.
yeah this kind of thing is boring. but there’s lots of interesting indie rock too
to be fair, it is a remarkably terrible song
"shimmer" was inescapable on modern rock radio in the mid-to-late 90s, at least where i grew up.
pure heroine seems so far away…
oddly enough there are bits of this song that remind of pearl jam... the hidden track on ten, right? or maybe a little "release."
ugh, i still think of that video whenever i have to drain a large pot of pasta.
i have a dumb SFA story that i love, and want to share (even though it really belongs with their next album): in 2003 i was home from college on a holiday break and watching mtv2 (or some tv channel that played music videos, this was pre-youtube). they're playing the super furry animals' video for "golden retriever," which features the band in crazy costumes covered in long golden hair. my mom walks into the room and says "what band is this?" me: "they're called super furry animals..." mom: "i can SEE that!!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNB3WWkNVhM
was just thinking how great it is that something that must've sounded like a throwaway in 1970 can sound so fun and fresh in 2021.
great list there. "i believe" frequently tops my favorites list.
that phrase is also quoted in this unreleased radiohead song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiPTuartURE
