Sometimes you gotta take a break at being a trailblazer and play it safe.
The crypto bros are drinking my blood like the kids in meme school said they would.
Hell yeah on the Hayden Thrope inclusion! I miss those Wild Beasts more and more with every passing year, but his new solo LP is basically Smother pt. 2.
1. Sweet Trip 2. Danny Elfman 3. Duran Duran 4. Magdalena Bay 5. Spellling
The new Kele solo LP from this year The Waves Pt. 1 proved that Kele is back in fine form and this new single is super impressive.
This performance turned me into a backup dancer. I quit my entire career and am buying nothing but monochromatic dance suits .
I’m a Happy Go Lucky Virgin from planet Goofball and I let this roll off my duck feathers. Taylor Swift won’t get me to ever have sex with anyone.
Seven! Seven stereogum comments! Ahh, ha, ha, ha....!
Everything from track 4 onwards: Very good First three tracks: Some of the most WTF sequencing I've ever encountered, so much so that I almost respect it's sappy disregard for taste and style.
Would Love to KV and the War on Drugs do something together like Sharon van Etten and Angel Olsen did recently.
FX continues to be making one of the only relevant shows outside of HBO. Really amazing to me that these two companies manage to build relationship with an amazing diverse array of talent, whereas companies like Netflix keep whiffing with their programming in the States. Atlanta is perfection. What We Do in the Shadows perfection. Better Things perfection. Fargo, Baskets, Legion, Justified and Americans plus the show that shan't be named. Still need to get around to Reservation Dogs but that looks promising too. Please hire me FX!
Really digging his way to complete irrelevancy. I know MM has way too many fans still but it's a stagnant and shitty fanbase to court, but someone like ye only does things because HE wants to. Therefore, he actually believes in the bottom of his heart that it is good and righteous to clown around with those Accused of Sexual Assault and that His half assed music will somehow absolve them? Dondarhea of the mind and mouth. If ye cares so much about calling Drake some kind of jock, the MM fans I knew in HS were abysmal straight edge kids that were constantly bullying me for being the weird one. You're hanging out with the same old stunted crowd.
Been getting really into Echo and the Bunnymen these days! They really are one of the Titans of post-punk that should be as revered as The Cure, The Smiths, New Order/JD, and they were a lot more consistent than a lot of other new wave more pop leaning groups too. The 4 album run from Crocodiles up through Ocean Rain is an insanely satisfying batch of heavenly albums. I would absolutely love to see a band like The Killers or Arcade Fire cover one of those albums in full like The Flaming Lips did with Dark Side of the Moon.
Probably one of their best singles in years. Like a stronger Architecture In Helsinki, tasteful Eurovision-core.
Was kinda hoping this would be some vaporwave Beirut Plastic Beach sound, a Fisher-Price Island if you will. Instead this is warm, organic Beirut at his finest.
Wanted to copy and paste the entire lyrics to "Cutthroat", but I'll stick to one verse: "I've been making my Gethsemane Since I was young, my ancestry (cutthroat) Was marching martyrdom across the Radadadadumbla plains of Utah (cutthroat) I can't lie, I've been played By powerful people who get their way But I, in time, will climb my mountain I, in time, will rise"
We're still figuring out the airport National flight terminal highway exit. We're still in the pre-opening advertisement and branded content right before the previews. We're not even through the first hour of a Springsteen E-Street MSG show after the 911th 9/11 memorial event. We're not even at the first tired puppy of the Puppy bowl. We're not even at the first Campbellian threshold, we're still on hold getting transferred to our call to Adventure. We're not even through the first verse of Black Eyed Peas "Let's Get it Started" of the Apocalypse, apl.de.ap's solo verse isn't even in sight yet.
And a nod. And a Tim Heidecker or Weyes Blood collaboration. LDR trying to do a comedy? I'm sure whatever comedy she would attempt be too interested in engaging with her haters or something on the nose about cancel culture.
Case-in-point: Low, also another band with engaging lyrics. The question of LDR's intentionality and self-awareness is always in play. I do wish she would play around with Brian Eno's Oblique Strategies or go fight a forest fires, or something unexpected. So far, it seems like she just wants to be a good Hostess giving us the Most-ess.
Does anyone have a favorite batch of songs from Punk they could list? I just don't have the energy or enthusiasm for these hour-plus Trap/hip hop Albums anymore.
Brandon Flowers listening to a Lana Del Rey album is funny to me. LDR seems like she just can't get enough of those big 00's rock band references. The trouble is Brandon Flowers is full of odd and fun phrases with his lyricism whereas LDR seems stuck in Spot the Reference territory.
Why haven't Elbow made an album of Morricone covers called Macaroni?
C'mon! Laetita Sadier and Cate Le Bon album announcements? That must mean a new Bradford Cox's Atlas Sound, right?
How did I miss this? This is thrilling! As a mourning Chromatics fan this is exactly why I needed.
Chromatics hurts a lot more. Dear Tommy is out floating somewhere in the Northern Pacific.
The "dixie delight" lyric truly exposes all of these Southern culture peddlers that the just can't stop, will not stop, evoking Slavery era. This is equal parts bleak and deranged, a combo as old as Shrimp and Sirloin.
Thank you for taking the time to write this out in a really thoughtful way. This type of brain dead humor is way too easy and should be avoided at all costs. Pop culture really warped and decayed too many people's perception of people's livelihood and bodily autonomy. People who do horrible things should pay back a debt society but it shouldn't be in violent cess pools of rampant human rights violations that line the pockets of prison corporations. See! Once I get going...Say No To Brain Dead Easy Jokes.
This was the sort of sounds that got me into AnCo and ambient in the first place. It has indeed been waaay too long since we got a lovely and languorous PB track with no production fussiness.
Fallon stinks but his record collection and music taste is good enough for me to go on a sinister road trip with him. He's just a really lucky until he wasn't sort of blank slate husk of a man that I don't quite understand. I have not a single person that actually watches his show on a regular basis or at least watches YouTube clips, I don't know anyone who watches much of any late night TV anymore. I do watch late night TV band performances though because Stereogum and other sites post them and usually Fallon's team booking talent is the only real star of late night. The men behind the desk, in the karaoke car, in the ball pit they are all are just beyond irrelevant at this point.
American Music Festivals really be either too sleepy on rails or a complete human rights violation.
Wow one of those John Carpenter boys is quite the cutie
The Byzantine marketing VIP sections is truly some dark and depressing reality that RJ glides right pass to great effect. The paragraph containing the excerpt: "A line of people with general admission wristbands extended all the way to the outer general admission area. Security would then shepherd small flocks of people at the front of the line to a concrete barrier rail front and center for ideal camera photos and a fleeting feeling of rocking out at the front of the show. They were then ushered back down the tunnel moments later so a new crop of people could get the same experience." Absolutely chilling.
Oh I get it….he’s waiting for the other shoe to drop.
100%...we really really took OF for granted when it was around. Let's bring back the Collectives!
Where is the new Elephant Six Collective? That sort of vitality and energy hasn't been around an American music scene...a very powerful chapter of psychedelic music.
Reminder that everyone should check out the really good Eleanor Friedberger starring film Slow Machine, probably my favorite film of the year alongside Pig and Annette.
Definitely the most 21st century pop group going...feel like most of the music pop world is still catching up to what these two are doing. Have a feeling this will be something of a "return to form." Really dig that touch of drum n bass digital percussion makes me feel like I'm in Wakowski's Speed Racer.
One two CHVRCH’s and Nite Jewel is a mighty duo.
