I wouldn't mind seeing either of these bands, but "It's Time" lacks a certain excitement that I would expect when promoting a rock tour. Like, I'm gonna go add a gallon of water to this polyethylene glycol/salt mixture because _it's time_ to prep for my colonoscopy.
Funny and dark are absolutely co-existing elements here. I think the majority of Nirvana's catalog is about exploring depression in a playful, self-aware way. That leaves a lot of room for the listener to identify with either side of it at a given moment. There are of course deviations that are completely earnest or totally silly nonsense, but it's the balance that makes the band.
Without that balance, you get the dregs of post-grunge.
Nobody ever talks about the stage monitors that get smashed by guitars.
When I was twelve, I mowed lawns for an entire summer just to get money to buy my first wedge. Not that I had anything to plug into it, but I loved it anyway. I wanted to keep it close, so I took it with me to bed. I laid my head against the carpeted side to dream of someday being a PA hero.
Today I can hardly remember those dreams, but I can still feel the impression left by the "Peavey" logo badge on my cheek.
